Greetings from the city of steel, glass, and bridges! Though i haven't found any stolen glass bridges yet (rim-shot), i'm still enjoying Pittsburgh very much. Any of you who have been in the 'Burgh will realize that the masthead of this newsletter has been inspired by the skyline of the city. Hopefully, the letters aren't hidden too well above; for those of you who might not discern all of them, they spell "Wiseguy News".
For those of you privileged to be receiving this distiguished rag for the first time, let me just tell you that i've been putting it out at least once a year for many moons now. i hope you enjoy it, and i hope that it comes as a welcome break from your summer routine.
One last "editor's note". Last year in the fall, some of you who got my newsletter last summer apologized for not writing back after you got it. Please, my friends, don't apologize for not writing back when next you see me. It is true, one of my purposes in writing this is to keep in touch with all of you and to let you know what i'm up to, and i do desire to hear from each of you. But writing back is purely a voluntary act on your part with

no obligation from me. Like i've said in amongst these columns before, just use the reception of this as an excuse for writing back, but don't think i'll feel the least bit slighted if you don't happen to. Alright, that's enough of that. Let's move on.

What i'm up to...

i am so busy this summer, i almost feel guilty writing about what i'm doing; i feel like i should being doing these things instead of just writing about them. Oh well, perhaps if i articulate all of them, then i will be further motivated to accomplish them with posthaste.

WORK

Well, i suppose the first thing to write home about is what i'm doing to bring in the funds. This summer i'm working for two small companies owned by the same five guys. Both are in the same building at a light industrial park called U-PARC, which stands for University of Pittsburgh Applied Research Center.
Some days i'll work on the 3rd floor of building A-2 at Excel Technology, Inc. When i work there, i'll be doing engineering stuff like computer-aided drafting & design, stress analysis calculations, technical writing, and sometimes "gopher" work like installing shelves in the workshop, faxing a new design revision to a client, and other such things.
