  Soon and very soon...

self, market

A little after four o-clock, my boss, who had taken the day off to play golf with the other managers, called from the course and told everyone to go home. He told the guy he left in charge that the weather was nice that nobody in his charge should be stuck in the office, so by proxy he let us all leave early. Ecstatically surprised, I shot out of the building and onto the highway -- Destination: BEST BUY. Yesterday I went window shopping for a computer during my lunch hour, then slept on it, and had determined to buy a box on Saturday. But the early release on Friday afternoon was just the right impetus to buck the plan and go a little crazy. Not too crazy, though, since I bought the least expensive computer possible for about $450 with a $50 rebate 8 weeks from now:

This is much different from my previous machine, which was 1.2 GHZ, running Windows 98, and yet further different from the horse-and-buggy I've been using for the past four months: My wife's Pentium 500 MHz, running W98 on a crumb of memory in a closet of a harddrive (Sorry, dear, but it will be quite a relief to have a slightly longer runway to take off from). It now sits on my floor in its box as I stand over it in triumph and anticipation. I'm looking forward to meeting you tomorrow, my friend...
